CAR STORIES:
Coasting, soy beans, and radio
I just heard about your organization on IE America Radio news via the internet
during the Mike Malloy Show and had to write you immediately. As a mother
of three teenage daughters I went from driving an AWD Dodge Grand Caravan
with plenty of room to separate the girls to driving a fuel efficient 2001
five speed stick shift Volkswagen Beetle equipped with four airbags.
Although the Bug isn't the safest car on the road, "easily squishable"
to quote the kids, its presence on the road is noticed by all and provides
me with instant security do to the curious nature of surrounding drivers.
I have saved so much money on gas even though the Beetle only gets 31 mpg
on the highway.
I have managed to increase my milage by coasting. By driving a stick shift
I merely slip the car into neutral when going down hills or exciting on off
ramps where I am required to reduce speed. I also save gas by putting my car
in neutral when exiting on an off ramp that goes up hill. I can make it to
the top of the hill faster than automatics and merely down shift near the
top of hill to slow the vehicle down before reaching the stop sign. Coasting
saves and it's fun. Just remember don't ride the clutch.
We the folks on the left have been talking about this subject for years on
the internet radio programs. Yes liberals have a secret underground radio
network that we listen to while at work or at home in front of the computer.
Try IE AMERICA Radio or Radio Left on the internet. I realize you folks in
California actually get liberal radio programs via the air waves, but some
of us here in the Midwest or the south must go to the internet to hear what
is going on out there in the free part of the United States. Mike Malloy spoke
of your concern years ago. He kept demanding that if they just increased the
mpg by 1,2 or 3 mpg on suvs the gas savings would be staggering. If you would
like to get your message heard I'm sure Mike would love to do an interview,
via the phone, with you. I'll write the producer suggesting they contact you/Gary
Gartner.
I'm from Illinois where corn and soybeans are king. Alternative fuels using
soybean oil or ethanol would help farmers. I have a question that maybe you
could help me on and would also be a benefit to your campaign. A few years
ago I heard about a man that built a car which he drove from somewhere out
east to somewhere out west and that vehicle was powered by soybean oil. The
story was reported and hushed up quickly. I certainly hope he didn't sell
his idea or engine to the "BIG AUTO" makers. Did you hear about
that story? Do you know what became of that man and his soybean-mobile? I'll
try to drum up some support for "Don't be fueled" here in Illinois.
To accomplish your goal for fuel efficient autos that are cleaner and safer
I would like to suggest that you endorse the campaign of John Kerry for President
of the United States. I'm not suggesting this because I'm a Kerry supporter
because I'm actually a Dean supporter. I'm sure Dean would be in favor of
the increase in MPG too but Senator Kerry tried to do something about it in
2002 and deserves your support. The crop of Democratic candidates running
for president this year are the most qualified group of individual I have
ever seen. The Republican party has never had such a qualified GROUP of candidates.
These men are leaders. You can tell by the way they speak. They are direct
and answer questions in complete sentences with complete thoughts. They mean
what they say. I'm sure all of them would be in favor of an increase in MPG
and auto safety. By backing Kerry we can accomplish the goal of getting the
MPG we want.
I'm so glad I found your website. I'll spread the word.
Sincerely,
Nita Caudillo
from Illinois P.S. I wanted the Pruis hybred but couldn't afford it. I hope
they come down in price.
